A man stands, surveying his garden. He’s obviously been working hard, taking great care of his farm and his labors are paying off.
The plants seem to be hearty and abundant and yet, he doesn’t seem to be excited or celebrating, rather he looks wistful.
Often when we set a goal and achieve it, we don’t take the time to really let it soak in. We either assess and find the flaws in our accomplishments, or we immediately set a new goal and begin to power toward that one. Why is it so hard to take the time to enjoy the fruits of our labors?
Similar to a retrograde cycle in Astrology, the 7 of Pentacles (or Coins) card reminds us that we need to take time to look back at where at where we started, so that we can actually absorb our success. This assessment also helps us determine if we want to stay on the same path or establish a new direction. What did we do well? What needs to be tweaked? This kind of introspection is what keeps us in the present moment, instead of constantly jumping ahead in the future.
The 7 of Pentacles is a money card, and it pushes us to remember that accomplishments of any kind are a form of prosperity, but in order to be able to see them as such, we have to take the time to be fully present and aware of our successes and the way they make us feel, otherwise we miss out on the deep richness of a job well done.
Have you been missing out on some of the riches and bounty in your own life by rushing from goal to goal? Where could you stand to slow down and give yourself some well deserved credit for a job well done?
