We have King energy this week. This is the King of Swords and true to his name, he’s a sharp one. The only of the 4 kings with a frown on his face, he represents the air element which is about intellect, ideas, intuition, comprehension and perception.
Kings command attention and respect and the King of Swords requires more of that than the others do. Being the king of mental activity, discernment and sharp judgement, he does not mess around. Sword cards in general, do not mess around. This is the suit with the least amount of fluff and the lowest tolerance for bulls*it. So we have our frowning King and his no nonsense attitude and he’s come with his sword to let us know that there are decisions to be made and details to get in order. Before you go into a panic though, yes he’s sharp, yes he’s intimidating, but he has butterflies and moons on his throne signifying that he also has a soft side.
In astrology we’re in the midst of an activation of a Saturn Square Neptune transit. Saturn is the planet of authority, boundaries and time and Neptune is the planet of illusions, fantasies, nightmares and dissolved boundaries. This is your strict and regimented, totally conservative father up against your artsy vagabond aunt who may or may not be tripping on LSD right now.
A Square is an aspect in astrology where the 2 planets involved are at a 90 degrees angle from one another in the sky. A square equals tension because the motivations of the involved planets don’t align. So the two planets in question are already complete opposites who trigger each other to begin with and now they're in a power struggle. And you’re in the middle.
Stress is a great impetus for growth but too much stress and a breakage can occur. Can you see this in your own life? Are there places where you’re trying to create order and finding yourself sleepy and distracted? Or are you being a strict taskmaster in places and know that you need to take a chill pill?
This is where the King of Swords comes in. Remember that with Tarot, there are always multiple ways to read the cards. The “right” answer will depend on your current situation. Our commanding King is pushing you to do one of these two things: be less emotional and more logical or less logical and more emotional.
An astrological square means change is here, it’s time. You can go gracefully (albeit uncomfortably) or you can go kicking and screaming. Either way, you’re -a- changin’. So let’s just say that you’re either being too Saturnian (logic over emotion) or too Neptunian (emotion over logic). What do you need to come more into balance between the two? That’s your question for the week. Love, Natha
