The week, we have the Four of Swords. This is a “rest and restore your energy” card. Interesting as Mars goes direct tomorrow, meaning that the log jam we’ve been feeling around being able to really get our hands on what we want, will begin to lift a little. The caveat though is that it’s not going to lift fast. There’s always a shadow period where we integrate that which we’ve learned and in order to integrate we must what? Rest.
Swords represent intellect, the thinking mind, logic and ideas. You’ve likely had a bunch of mental activity lately and this card is a message advising you to stop that. Sometimes we spin a problem in so many rotations around the orbit of our mind that we lose sight of the context. We become unable to see possible solutions and instead find ourselves addicted to the worry chemicals our brain produces.
It’s time to give yourself a break from all of that.
Once Mars goes direct and gains momentum, you may not have the opportunity to rest again. Things are due to pick up speed which is a whole different animal. But in the meantime, in this brief period between slow down and action.. we must restore and replenish.
This week, create an oasis in your personal space. Close your curtains and cleanse your crystals. Regroup for the long journey ahead. Calm your mind and quiet your thoughts.
This is a minor arcana card so it pertains to details in your life (not the overall picture). On the card we have a man (probably a Knight) laying in repose, hands in a meditative mudra. He has 3 swords pointing at his head which symbolize pounding and invasive thoughts and yet he lies peacefully. The horizontal sword underneath him symbolizes the act of laying certain thoughts to rest. The stained glass in the corner shows 2 figures, likely a mother and a child. This symbolizes comfort and allowing yourself to be taken care of.
Part of resting means that we ask for what we need and allow ourselves to be taken care of whether it be by another human, or by simply allowing ourselves to enjoy the mundane, like the cool breeze of the fan placed near our bed.
This card speaks to coming to terms with what is. Where are you? What lessons have you learned since April? What is your next move? You need to know these things because if you don’t, you’ll get swept along in the momentum of someone else's river. Disengaging from your personal responsibility may sound like the path of least resistance to some but remember: being passive to “keep the peace” is merely a passive aggressive tool used to avoid reality and it breeds bitterness and resentment.
So this week, take a step back from making big decisions, allow yourself the freedom to chill the hell out (especially from repetitive thinking) and gather your resources for the fast and furious ride ahead. This is 2016, things are moving at the speed of light and there’s only one way to get off this ride… so fasten your seat belts.
