In Tarot, the Major Arcana cards tell a story about overarching themes. Every card from 0 (The Fool) to card Twenty One (The World) is essentially another chapter in the story of the Major Arcana which is an analogy to life.
Today I’ve drawn the first card, 0, The Fool. This is a beginning point. This is the part of the story where we start from scratch, we know nothing and we are naive to the perils and dangers of what’s to come. This can be a blessing and a curse.
The human Ego loves to know. It wants to be able to accurately predict what will happen and how it will happen and what will be said and what will be eaten and whether there will be free wifi and a breakfast buffet. It wants to know because it wants to ensure comfort.
The truth is that we never know anything though, not really. And there’s beauty in being in that place of ignorance. The Universe and the storyline opens up before us to countless potential scenarios. Anything is possible and that’s exciting- admit it! Yes, yes, we know your Ego wants to know what the hell to expect, but sorry little Ego Self, today we’re trading in the our intense need to predict for a wild adventure instead.
The imagery on this card is of a young man, knapsack packed and ready with a feather in his cap to boot. The color is sunny and yellow and the weather is full of promise. There’s a sweet little dog at his heels that’s ready and raring to go. It’s all good right? Notice that there are also ice caps in the background which allude to some hard times ahead- and oh- he’s also about to walk off a cliff. But like the saying goes: “Jump and the net will appear” right?
So this week, be like The Fool. Know that you have a long and possibly arduous journey ahead of you and prepare as much as you can for it by becoming aware of what that journey is. What is here asking to be explored? Where are you going? You know the answer. Befriend the issue, invite it in for a chat and try to keep in mind that any time we face our old traumas and wounds with courage and a sense of adventure (and some perseverance), we reap rewards beyond our wildest dreams.
Know that by the time the journey is over and you're at card Twenty One, that you’ll be wiser, stronger and that The World will be yours.
