Similar in Appearance, Widely Different in Meaning

In astrology The Moon represents the emotional body. The sign of our natal moon (determined by the location of the moon in the sky at the exact moment we’re born) speaks to the way we feel and process our emotions. Some of us pay very little attention to our emotions and some of us are completely run by them. Neither way is right or wrong but emotions are emotions; fluid and ever changing. They’re essentially illusions devised from whatever story we attach to what’s happening. If we think it’s bad, we feel bad. If we think it’s good we feel good. And the storyline and its translation can morph and change on a dime.

The Sun on the other hand represents who we are at our core and that stands pretty steady without too much shifting. This is the relative baseline or undercurrent of our personality that remains unchanged throughout the course of our lives. These are the parts of us that our best friends and family come to know. It’s who we are under all the trappings of the ego. It’s the part that’s real.

So the Moon card signifies the polarity between both of these. The ever changing vs the solidity and (of course) with duality like that, confusion is never far behind. On the card we have nighttime, and it’s hard to see in the dark. We also have a sun and moon layered on each other.  So we have the moon blotting out the sun; aka, our emotions overshadowing who we are. We also have a wolf and a dog that are similar in appearance, but widely different in meaning. One representing fear, danger and unpredictability and the other symbolic of stability and love. And of course water (aka unpredictable emotions.)

This puts us in a state of confusion, perhaps disillusionment, perhaps fantasy, and that’s the energy this card is speaking to this week. Where are you experiencing a sense of bewilderment this week? Now look at that situation through the lens of “are my emotions manipulating who I really am?”

Are they? Are you giving into fear? Spacing out in fantasy? Deceiving yourself? Could you step into the perspective of your core self and see what shifts need to be made?  Do it.

Remember, the message of this card is that you may be suffering in a state of confusion that isn't necessary. The best way to get out of that shadow is to move into the sun.
