He stands on a hill, looking distraught, dodging blows from below. There are places in all of our lives where we fight uphill battles. The pile of mail that never ends, the chronically frustrating relationship with a sibling, a health issue that we can’t seem to cure. This card speaks to that.
There’s another energy with this card though and it’s one of defiance, of standing your ground no matter what, of being willing to fight for what you believe in. Conformity equals safety in our culture, but it can be a hard pill to swallow. When we’re unable to find comfort in convention, we must gather the courage to disagree and face opposition for doing it the way we think is right.
This is the 7 of Wands. “7 cards” in Tarot speak to a bit of discord or rather, discomfort. Not everything is as it seems when the 7’s show up- there’s often a bit of disillusionment that may be happening in your life around something. Being the Suite of Wands (which is the fire element) means that this foggy discernment you might be experiencing will be in the realm of things that require action, movement and energy. So the guidance for this week will shine on those areas that include things like projects, adventures, partnerships, plans, competition, etc.
Looking around the world right now we see many standing in defiance of things they see as wrong, and we see many in defeat because there are battles they can’t seem to win. This card urges you to acknowledge the existence of those 2 kinds of situations in your life, we’re all in both camps. The next step is to examine whether your thoughts and beliefs about those situations are really accurate or whether you’re ‘telling stories’ that may not include facts.
We can fight for what we think is right all day or we can worry ourselves to the bone about what we can’t get done but in the end, if we’re not seeing the situation through the lens of reality, it’s all wasted effort.
