The Emperor is at the top. He runs the show. He tells people what he wants and they oblige. Does everyone like The Emperor? Nope. Does everyone do what he commands? Yep. Why? Because he has good boundaries, he’s consistent and people know what to expect.
Predictable people are powerful people. People that waver and falter and change their minds and say yes when they would rather say no… well those kinds of people aren’t so powerful. People that complain and like to talk about how terrible everything is but don’t like to do anything about it… well those kinds of people aren't so powerful either.
The thing is, for the most part we’re all inherently strong and capable. Most of us have the abilities we need to become the Emperors of our own lives, but we let other things get in our way. We let the endless chatter of our minds tell us stories, we let the mindless chatter of the news tell us stories, and all it leads us to distraction. When we can’t focus, we lose our power, we lack order, we bend rules and we get confused.
Where in your life have you lost your power? Where would you like to get it back? That's the directive of this card- take back your power. Establish law and order, take a leadership role, create order out of chaos. The first step is naming what you want to change, the next step is to be like the Emperor; work out what your boundaries are, and then stick to them.
The Emperor isn't affected by people being upset with him, he isn’t worried about hurt feelings and disapproval because he’s ruling with his head and not his heart. This is not to say that ruling with the heart isn’t also powerful, but for this kind of energy, its too subjective.
It takes energy to rule and it isn't always relaxing either, but the pay off is that being powerful is enlivening and being powerless, is agonizing. So what's it going to be?
