Meet the studio chapter 2

Metal Texture Stamps
We all know that I rarely make a piece that doesn't have a word (or 5) on it but I am also a huge fan of texture. Last time I introduced you to the mill and the texture in relief that it creates. Today lets talk about inverted texture. All hail the stamp!

This is only a small portion of my wonderful stamp collection. I collect different letter fonts, sizes, numbers, designs, textures- whatever! It doesn't matter, if it's a cool stamp, I want it.

This dot texture (above) is one of my favorites, because it just adds a little unexpected interest to any piece.

The above shot has good examples of words and textures that I add to almost every piece.

A close up of a few of the design stamps. I use these less often... I think you have to be careful with some of the design stamps since they will push a piece into predictability if you're not careful.

Louisville! You Won!

Louisville Colorado just got rated the number one small town in the country to live. Our Luscious Studios are right around the corner from Louisville. If you've ever ordered jewelry from us, you might have noticed that it arrives from an L-ville mailing address. We also have a cool little store called Luminary, that sells our jewelry in Old Town. If you're ever in the neighborhood, stop in and check it out. It's a gorgeous little store, with lots of local goodies and they have jewelry of ours that can't be found online. Congratulations Louisville!

Sweetheart Mania!

Well it's July and we are finally able to catch our breath a bit here in the studio. The Parenting Magazine feature had us crazy for months! We produced so many of these pretty little personalized Sweetheart Necklaces that I've lost count. I've said before that I owe my sanity to my wonderful studio assistant Shannon. Not only can she wire wrap her butt off but she has loads of patience (which I don't) and shes totally fun to have in the studio. Love you Shannon! Thanks to all of you for supporting us and ordering these necklaces for the moms, sisters, grandmas and friends in your life! Congratulations to Jayme P. who won the necklace from the contest here on the blog and to Denise J. who was the lucky winner from the Parenting website contest. We couldn't do it without you, our fabulous customers!

Style Eyes Interview

Ceri Heathcote has a lovely little corner of the web called Style Eyes Fashion Blog. It's filled with all sorts of musings on fashion, jewelry, sustainable style and more. There are lots of pretty pictures to look at too, which is one of my favorite reasons for reading blogs of course. She is all the way over in the UK and I always find it fascinating to hear the points of view of women from all over the world. I'm flattered that she likes my jewels too! She also works with designerhighstreet.com, "the ultimate guide for ladies with style". Ceri interviewed me, check it out, it was so much fun! Thanks Ceri~

Happy New Year!

I didn't grow up Southern but I can definitely claim it now and it is a big Southern tradition to eat collard greens, black eyed peas and cornbread on New Years Day. The collards are meant to bring money into your new year, the black eyed peas are for luck and the cornbread is for gold. So that's what we did, because money, luck and gold are certainly things we can use in 2009! Not to mention that this meal is just really really good! Welcome 2009...

My ring collection

I used to collect jewelry. My rule was that I couldn't buy a piece that I could make myself. Now a days I just collect and wear my own jewelry, partly because I just adore it (am I allowed to say that?) but also because I'm my own best advertisement and I like having a personal archive of favorite pieces that I have made in the past. It's fun to examine old pieces and see how my design and craftsmanship have evolved over the years.
This is about 1/3 of my ring collection. I have included most of my favorites here, rings that I have made and rings that were given to me by my most precious people. I made 8 of these rings (can you spot them?) and there are 5 wedding rings among them (not all mine!!).
By the way, I just started selling my infamous Jewel Rings online in my Smashing Darling Store...Check them out- they're fabulous!

Okay, it's true...I secretly love whimsical

More cool gift ideas! I just stumbled across the sweetest little store on Etsy. Middleburg Folk Art Studio, original papier mache and fabric sculptures by artist Susan Havens-Morris. I am in love with these amazing little papier mache creations! I seriously want about 2/3 of the items in the store, but that pink cupcake....
Oh and Middleburg is Green...all of their papier mache pieces are made from 100% recycled ground newspaper. Not just beautiful smart too.

The Pink Cupcake Box that will be mine soon... I hope

Okay, I'll take this beautiful poppy garland too!

Ummm...birds and cake- 2 of my favorite things

Another amazing gift idea

Wine charms are a fabulous idea for so many reasons. The problem is that each charm is usually so unremarkable that it doesn't really do a proper job of reminding you which wine glass is yours. "Did I have the red beads or the green?" These delightful charms by Diffraction are so lovely and visually luscious that you might want to employ them to do more jobs around the house than just wine glass guarding... Only $22 for a set of 5. They have more than fruit, leaves and flowers, there is the Chicago series, the Paris series and the silver series as well Order them from Diffraction on Etsy.com

First look at KellyBella!

We've all been waiting for the new collections to arrive and the truth is that they actually arrived some time ago but I had to get them photographed before I could begin to showcase them. There will be three new collections plus the rings are coming, the rings are coming!! I am especially excited about the KellyBella collection...pretty jewelry with little prices. Everything should be up on my website in the next 2 weeks but above is one of my favorite pieces from that collection..."Encircle" is a hand hammered hoop of sterling with flush set white zircons. The sparkly stones really shine in the oxidized metal and the back side has hammered dots so it's just as pretty as the front. Elegant and infinitely wearable. The chain is 20" so we have the double appeal of a long chain and a shimmering circle. I mean come on...how fashionable can you be? Eat your heart out Tom Shane...
