You may be under the impression that you’re searching for a fulfilling career or the love of your life or a damn good slice of chocolate cake but none of that even begins to describe what you’re truly seeking. That force that pulls you toward it like the winning end of a tug of war rope, isn’t something tangible you’re going to finally get, rather it’s an elusive little thing called connection.
When you become spiritually educated enough to understand yourself and your relationship with True Nature (The Universe, Source Energy, God, Being), you’ll reach a point where you’ll finally comprehend that your mind governs your ego and your ego (and your Superego also known as your inner critic) is what keeps you in this state of perceived separation from connectedness, or enlightenment.
Enlightenment is simply a connection with God, which really means a connection with yourself. In this state you’re not a person, nor your history, nor your reputation, nor your problems. You’re just you, a witness, and all of the drama and pain of life just simply doesn’t matter to that consciousness.
How do you find that kind of deep connection to yourself? You have to do the work. This is what the 8 of Coins card is about. Learning to make that money. Because this is a Pentacles card, it refers to the earth element and most pointedly, money. Let’s look at money as energy though. In this case, money energy is anything that we consider to be abundance; or things that brings us closer to ourselves. It can be actual material wealth, or a state of presence, happiness, intelligence, sexual attraction. It’s anything we think we need in order to feel worthy and relevant and capable. But it isn’t those things. Rather it’s the journey we take to attain those things that gets us into deeper relationship with our own Source Energy.
There seems to be an expectation in the spiritual community that working toward a state of enlightenment or self actualization, requires that one be zen and centered and not a shit head and also inspirational. Which is cool kind of…albeit boring and unrealistic. A much more manageable way of doing it is by tripping and falling and coming up short and embarrassing ourselves and marrying and divorcing and sweating and dropping crumbs on the floor and generally fucking shit up. Because every time we miss the mark, we gather information we didn't have before and we learn more about ourselves in the process. And that is called doing the work.
Let’s be clear: even doing the work required, we don’t reach self actualization and get to stay there indefinitely. A revolving door on the deal ensures you that you come and go, and often. Essentially we’re here to work toward a state of oneness with ourselves and the Universe and we fall in and out of that state until we die. And thats okay.
So get used to it. We’re here. Shit is hard and then its good, and then it’s hard again but it’s all in a days work, it brings us closer to ourselves and a clear channel to universal energy. So the guidance of this card is that you have a choice. You can long for the money, or you can learn how to make it.
So which one will you choose?
