Natha and Whitney modeling pieces from Divine ~ Align If you've ever flipped through and looked at the pieces on our website, you've seen that we don't hire professional fashion models to wear our jewelry. In fact, I'm the one in quite a few of the pictures wearing the jewelry and the rest of the women are all my friends. Why? Because this is real-life! Real-life women are just as beautiful as paid models and real-life women are the ones who buy our jewelry. Moms, career women, grandmas, college students, 20-somethings etc all buy and wear our jewelry and believe me, they're all beautiful in their own stunning ways. I know, because I've met quite a few of them. We live in a culture that somehow makes it okay to discount women if they don't hold up to a certain standard in terms of looks. Apparently we're all supposed to be thin and have long hair and big eyes and big breasts. And we get extra credit if we look perpetually young. And driving a cool car helps. And wearing expensive clothing makes us more valuable too. Here's the thing: that's crazy. I have 2 daughters and I will do anything within my power to mitigate the messages that the media wants them to believe as fact; that beauty is something singular and specific. I have never ever, and I mean EVER berated myself for being fat, ugly, saggy, tired-looking or old in front of my girls. I don't talk about how other people are fat or unattractive. I just don't do it. I'm not going to send them out into the world thinking that their value (or anybody else's) rests solely on what they look like. That's not a message that they'll ever get from me. They are vibrant, intelligent little girls and they are beautiful and powerful from the inside out, not the other way around. My daughters (who aren't wearing jewelry because they lose jewelry very quickly!)
This is also why I use my friends as my models. Because these women are beautiful and smart and kind and caring and loving. They have regular lives and do every day things and they are beautiful. They are beautiful because of who they are and what they say and the way they laugh and the mistakes they make. We all are. Beth wearing the Slinky Slice Earrings
